Designed for working nurses who have earned a master’s degree in nursing, this post-MSN nurse practitioner certificate features an interactive curriculum designed to prepare you for the Family Nurse Practitioner examination. Students who have earned a clinical MSN will be required to complete 11 courses while students with a nonclinical MSN will be required to complete one or two additional courses.*

Applicants for the Online-FNP program who meet all published admission criteria will be invited to discuss additional program requirements including on-campus immersion experiences and clinical placements prior to receiving final acceptance decisions.

Admission Requirements

Students who wish to enroll in D’Youville’s online post-MSN nurse practitioner certificate program must have both a baccalaureate and master’s degree in nursing from an institution accredited by the CCNE or NLNAC.

To apply, prospective students must:

  • Complete our free online application
  • Provide official transcripts from all colleges/universities currently or previously attended
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have a valid license to practice professional nursing in New York State or Ontario
  • Baccalaureate-level health assessment, pathophysiology and pharmacology courses or equivalent
  • Have at least one year of relevant professional experience
  • Complete a favorable review with a panel of D’Youville nursing faculty
  • Submit two letters of reference on clinical performance from a supervisor or colleague
  • CV from the last 5 years
  • CPR Certification
  • Personal Statement
  • RN License in the state of NY or Ontario (if license is from Canada, must reside in New York)
  • Confirmation of clinical placements to be completed during your program
