Courses and Requirements

Designed for working nurses who have earned an undergraduate degree in nursing, this online DNP program requires the completion of 1,000 clinical hours along with 12 conveniently online courses. The curriculum dives deep into advanced nursing topics, allowing you to expand your mind and strengthen your professional skills.

Applicants for the Online-FNP program who meet all published admission criteria will be invited to discuss additional program requirements including on-campus immersion experiences and clinical placements prior to receiving final acceptance decisions.

Admission Requirements

Students who wish to enroll in D’Youville’s online program must have both a baccalaureate and master’s NP degree in nursing from an institution accredited by the CCNE or NLNAC.

To apply, prospective students must:

  • Complete our free online application
  • Submit official transcripts from all college/universities attended
  • Have completed a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited program at a college or university (or CNO in Ontario)
  • Have completed a master’s degree with specialty preparation as an advanced practice nurse (nursing practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse anesthetist or nurse midwife) from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited program at a college or university (or CNO in Ontario)
  • Have a minimum graduate grade point average of 3.25 (based on a 4.0 system)
  • Hold a current license to practice professional nursing in New York State or Ontario
  • Hold a current certification in CPR
  • Hold current national certification (or exam eligibility) as an advanced practice nurse in a specialty area (where applicable)
  • Submit documentation of the number of clinical hours completed in prior master’s degree program
  • Have at least two years of relevant professional experience
  • Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae
  • Submit evidence of active membership in at least one professional organization
  • Complete a favorable review with a panel of D’Youville nursing faculty
  • Submit three letters of reference*
  • Submit a written personal statement outlining how the applicant expects the degree to assist in achieving specific career goals

An applicant may choose to submit GRE scores if they believe their application does not adequately reflect their potential to succeed in a doctoral program.

*D’Youville nursing faculty prefer that one reference letter is from a college-level professor and at least one is from an employer or colleague with an advanced or terminal degree, focusing on the applicant’s potential for success in the doctoral program.
